There are a lot of conversations currently about diversity, inclusion, racism, being an ally, and what all of this really means. We encourage everyone to do their best to create a welcome environment in their school communities and PTA can help with this.
National PTA has some resources for you, including a Diversity and Inclusion Toolkit. You’ll find resources here and here.
American Heart Association Voices for Healthy Kids 2021 Racial Equity in Public Policy Message Guide: Key messages & tips for advocates to use to advance the conversation on racial equity, link racial inequity and structural racism to policy, & obtain support for specific racial equity language in the policy. The intention of the Guide is to advance both equitable policies & conversations about structural racism. Click here to access the Message Guide.
Additionally, we were seeking resources from others and were referred to Dr. Robin DiAngelo. Her website, https://robindiangelo.com/resources/ includes an abundance of resources for all of us to learn from and use. Her book, White Fragility, was recommended, though it currently appears to be out of stock everywhere. Keep an eye out for it.
In the meantime, we were told about some videos we can share with you here! These videos are great conversation starters to have in your family and with friends. They are each thought provoking. We hope you will take the time to watch these and talk with others.
There are several more on YouTube. If you find one you think we should view and share, send us a link to info@jeffcopta.org.
