If you are a student or parent looking for program information, -OR- you are an individual student seeking to submit without support from a participating local unit, download instructions for student participants:

 Work within your local unit and school to promote participation in the Reflections contest. Establish a deadline for your local unit’s participants to submit student entries for judging. Be creative and have fun!

Set up judging of entries by volunteers, and create an event to recognize and celebrate your school’s winners. Please note rules and guidelines for limits on numbers of winners allowed per category.

Collect all local unit winner information as noted on entry forms, and create a digital copy of the winning piece (see notes on format requirements for digital submission). Upload your local unit’s winning submissions in digital format by no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, November 27.

 On the designated physical Turn-In Day on Saturday, December 9, your local unit will need to deliver all winning submissions for your unit to our designated artwork drop-off location at Red Rocks Community College – Lakewood (details TBA). Entries will be prepped for display at Red Rocks Community College – Lakewood as participants in our student art show.

Encourage local unit winners and their families to visit Red Rocks Community College – Lakewood during the week of the art show, December 11-15, to see their work publicly displayed with other participants. On Friday, December 15, all winning entries as judged at the Jeffco Council level will be invited to celebrate their county-level wins in a special awards ceremony where submissions advancing to the state competition will be recognized.

After one week of the public art show display, each local unit must send a representative to pick up their school’s artwork at Red Rocks Community College on Saturday, December 16. Artwork will not be mailed or delivered back to individual schools or local units.

Any winning entries at the Jeffco Council level will be delivered to the Colorado PTA Reflections chair for state-level judging and continuation through the contest. Physical copies of the artwork by Jeffco winners may be retained for delivery to the Colorado PTA for potential display.

The goal of PTA’s arts in education programming is to be a resource for PTA leaders in partnering with schools to provide opportunities for all students to explore and be involved in the arts.

The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program —support student success and serve as a valuable tool for building strong partnerships in your school community. When PTAs and schools work together to support arts education, they:

  • Encourage all students—despite individual challenges—to explore ideas, express their individuality and support their peers in a positive way;
  • Provide all students with an academic advantage by increasing student engagement and teacher effectiveness, which leads to increased school attendance rates and social connectedness among students; and
  • Enhance family engagement by connecting families and schools to one another and to their communities.

Schools and PTAs committed to quality learning in the arts can identify opportunities together for families to take an active role in support of arts education.

The Reflections program is run through local PTAs in good standing, and allows students in grades P-12 to enter pieces in:

Visual Arts • Photography • Literature
Film Production • Dance Choreography • Music Composition
