Dawn Fritz’s Biography

Speaking up for the things she believes in has always been important to Dawn Fritz. She joined PTA in 2013 and has never looked back. She has served as a unit Secretary, unit President, unit Advocacy Liaison, member of Colorado PTA’s (COPTA) Legislative Committee, COPTA Public Policy Director, and COPTA Legislative Committee Chair. Dawn currently serves PTA as a unit member, COPTA Director of Legislative Engagement, Jeffco PTA Vice President of Communications, and Jeffco PTA Representative to the Jeffco Public Schools District Accountability Committee.

Dawn’s “why’ has always centered on advocacy, and one of her highest priorities is empowering PTA members to advocate in their own communities. She went to law school later in life and became a licensed attorney at the age of 40. Although, she often jokes that law school was her mid-life crisis, her primary goals always center on serving the public good and gaining better tools to advocate for civil rights. During law school she was a student attorney in DU’s intensive Civil Rights Clinic, a published member of the Denver Law Review, interned at the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, and interned at the Colorado Governor’s Office of Legal Counsel. She also earned a Certificate in Constitutional Rights and Remedies and a Public Interest Distinction Award.

In addition to her volunteer work with PTA and other organizations, Dawn enjoys spending time with her spouse and high schooler (who has attended Jeffco Public Schools since preschool), reading, and time in the mountains.
